My name's Vanessa. I study and research disease and trauma induced neurodegeneration. I go to school and hopefully in September I'll be starting my Ph.D. in Neuroscience. I teach a Biochemistry lab to mostly undergrads (and the occasional sprinkling of grads). I also work at a pizza place part time.
I always hated cooking. Never liked it and never was any good at it. But now I have my own place. So, in an effort to keep from starving or eating pb+fluff for the rest of my life, I need to figure out this "being an adult and cooking" dilemma. I experiment in my kitchen through trial and error, emphasis on error, but occasionally I come up with some pretty yummy things. I like taking pictures and I like eating so this blog is going to be home to the successful endeavors that somehow make it out of my kitchen.
You can expect to find a wide range of cuisines and recipes here as the site progresses. I tend to be more on the healthier side though and whenever possible, I prefer to use fresher and lower fat ingredients compared to their heavier counterparts. That being said, there are some tastes that cannot be replicated (and shouldn't be!) in low calorie form and I promise they will not be butchered.
Please bear with me as the site continues to build - I'm always looking for new comments and constructive criticisms. Cooking (and domesticity in general) is a new art for me so I'm open to anything that will put a better meal on the table at the end of the day. Enjoy!
